Malignant mesothelioma is a rare disease, caused by asbestos exposure that can be found in the pleura (the lining of the chest), peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen region) or the pericardium (the lining of the heart). It can be malignant or non malignant, but unfortunately most mesothelioma cases diagnosed in the United States turn out to be malignant in nature, and this means that the cancer cells and tumors are able to spread as far as reaching the red blood cells, from where they can develop metastases. Diagnosing this disease is a difficult procedure, firstly because malignant mesothelioma symptoms are pretty much similar to those experienced by patients suffering from a large number of other diseases.
