12 year old Taylor Boerem has been recently diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma. In order to help Taylor and his family with money for the treatment, two charity events were held and all the money these raised was donated to Taylor’s family.
You probably know that mesothalioma is mostly caused by asbestos exposure, but the cases in which children so young are affected are very rare and this is why it is even sadder. Asbestosis or mesothelioma of any kind usually take several years to develop and this child is not nearly old enough to develop these types of diseases. Even so, researches in this matter have shown that children, if exposed to asbestos at a very young age, will develop diseases earlier.
The family of the patient noticed that their son experiences extreme weight loss, head aches and unexplained fatigue. This got them intrigued and they went to the doctor only to find out that their son was suffering from mesothelioma.
After the diagnosis was set, Taylor has started undergoing treatment and the doctors treating him said that they are expecting difficulties in the future, but right now the little boy is in good shape.
