Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer, usually caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos. Asbestosis, a similar disease to mesothelioma cancer, is also caused by asbestos. Mesothelioma and asbestosis have similar symptoms and to some extent, treatment methods are also similar. Breathing issues are the first symptoms of asbestosis or mesothelioma noticed. Asbestos and mesothelioma are closely linked together in most of the cases. Because these diseases stay latent for several decades, most of the patients are elderly people, between the ages of 40 and 65.
