Mesothelioma patients have been known to live past their predicted mesothelioma survival rate more often then before. These patients can be called survivors; at least doctors do so, because it means that they were stronger and were able to take treatment better compared to other patients.

Clinical trials for mesothelioma survivors are useful in seeing how a certain treatment method helped the specific patient live beyond the prognosis. This is also true for any other asbestos related disease, because it is known that these diseases can also cause death if not treated properly.
