Testicular mesothelioma is the rarest form of malignant mesothelioma with less than one hundred cases being recorded to date. The cause of this form of cancer is also asbestos exposure, and it starts in the lining that surrounds the testicles. From there it is able to spread to organs that are normally attacked by mesothelioma, such as the peritoneum, mesothelium or pleura.
Testicular Mesothelioma Types
As awkward as it may sound, there are two types of mesothelioma, testicular peritoneal mesothelioma and testicular malignant mesothelioma. The difference between the types of testicular mesothelioma is the way they develop and what organs they tend to spread to.
Testicular Mesothelioma Treatments
Most testicular mesothelioma cases, after being diagnosed, are being treat with methods very similar to malignant pleural mesothelioma, which are:
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy
- Surgery
- Some alternative treatment methods are used to lessen the effects of chemotherapy drugs and as symptoms relievers
As a form of mesothelioma cancer, testicular mesothelioma requires sometimes the removal of part of a testicle or even the entire organ. This is one of the treatment options that are a little more radical, and it is usually performed to patients that have reached the last stages of testicular cancer and no other treatment options yielded positive results.
Testicular mesothelioma is similar in every way to malignant or pleural mesothelioma. They are all diseases caused by asbestos exposure, all of them are difficult to treat and diagnose, and no cure is yet available for neither of them.
Being an asbestos related disease, the victim probably got exposed to the mineral while at the work place or when he came in contact with some insulation or roofing materials. If the victim was exposed to asbestos fibers at the work place he should contact a testicular mesothelioma lawyer in order to file a claim. He is entitled to at least the sum equal to the cost of treatment that he will receive.
Avoid exposure to asbestos as much as you can, and if you think you could have been exposed to fairly large amount of asbestos make sure that you contact your doctor for a cancer test, and also make sure that you take that test as often as needed.
